Following the terrorist attacks in the United States on September 11, 2001 Bayer contributed financial and material support for the relief operations in New York, Washington, D. C. and Pennsylvania. The company donated one million dollars, along with numerous products, material items and firefighting equipment and supplies, to selected relief organizations.
Shortly after the disasters, Bayer Management Board Chairman Dr. Manfred Schneider expressed condolences to U.S. President George W. Bush and the 23,200 employees of the U.S. subsidiary Bayer Corporation. In addition, Bayer also promised the U.S. authorities a donation of four million Ciprobay® tablets to combat the acute threat of anthrax. The tablets are intended for postal workers and for emergency and rescue services.
