Bayer has been included in the FTSE4Good index series in which U.K.-based index calculation specialist FTSE lists companies that are judged to have performed particularly well in the areas of human rights, social standards and environmental protection. This means that Bayer is one of the world's top 100 companies in the area of corporate social responsibility. This kind of evaluation is also significant for the enhancement of a company's corporate value over the medium term, considering the growing number of ethically oriented institutional and private investors. Only seven German companies have been accepted into this exclusive index. Bayer is the only non-U.S. or U.K.-based pharmaceutical company in the index, and also the only European chemicals company to be included.

Bayer is also a constituent of the so-called FTSE4Good Europe 50 Index, which includes the 50 best European companies according to FTSE's ethics criteria. This index has a total of nine German constituents. FTSE is one of the world's leading index calculation specialists. The company is owned in equal parts by the London Stock Exchange and the Financial Times. Its selection process is based on information released by both the companies themselves and by independent institutions, with international non-government organizations (NGOs) also serving as a source for evaluation.

Since 1999 Bayer also has been included in the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index, which selects companies which, in developing innovative products and services, orient themselves not only to the needs of the market but also to the principles of sustainability and resource conservation.
