Child labor is still widespread in countries like Brazil. Nevertheless, the number of under-age children employed in Brazil has declined by about 30 percent since 1995, not least thanks to the initiative of the Abrinq Foundation for Children's Rights. Bayer cooperates with this foundation. Its aims are to ensure respect for children's rights to health, education and human rights and to support welfare programs aimed at children. For example, our Consumer Care Business Group in Brazil only uses suppliers that do not tolerate child labor. Consumer Care Brazil is entitled to use the Abrinq logo, which identifies the business group as a child-friendly organization. This right is only granted to companies which respect the principles laid down in the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child of 1989. Consumer Care itself currently supports two projects recommended by the Abrinq Foundation: a hostel for homeless children who are drug addicts, and a day-nursery and care center for 370 needy children aged between four and 14.
