The "econsense Forum for Sustainable Development," which was launched in Germany in April 2001 in the presence of Chancellor Gerhard Schröder, aims to play an active role in shaping the principles of sustainable development. Bayer is one of the founding members of this forum, which regards itself as a "think tank" for industry. As well as generating ideas, it will discuss and implement solutions. Another aim is to promote a balanced view of economic, ecological and social issues. Since summer 2000 Bayer has been participating in project groups on a number of issues earmarked for discussion with politicians and society.
